The riser tensioning unit is designed to be on a mobile jack up drilling rig. The unit is designed to be operated using hydraulic oil.

The riser tensioning unit provides a supply of regulated pressure which derives from an HPU supplying a pressure of 207BarG.
The control panel then enables various regulated pressures to be applied to 4 off 70 ton hydraulic rams, each one being controlled individually. The system also incorporates accumulation for supply fluid to hold up the system during power failure. Along with pulsation dampeners for each ram control system allowing for linear actuation of the rams. There is also 100% redundancy on safety critical devices.

    Panel contruction

The skid is of a 316l stainless steel construction all of which is designed and tested in accordance with LOLER.
The panel has an integral drip tray and forklift pockets for manoeuvrability.
The major sub-components of the RTU are:-
• 1 off x 37ltr Accumulator
• 4 off x 2.5ltr Pulsation Dampeners
• 8 off x Hydraulic Regulators
• 5 off x Pressure Gauges
• 4 off x 4 Way Control Valves

Fluid output control and data monitoring

The control panel for this unit has panel mounted components that have a mimic diagram to aid operation.
There is a pressure gauge connected to fluid supply line, and then each ram control system taps off the supply header.
Each ram control systems consist of two hydraulic regulators duty and standby, after which a pressure gauge displays the output, finally a four way control valve either extends or retracts the ram depending on the application it is being used in.
